At a recent 4-H Dog Club practice in Monroe, Decatur Fire Chief Les Marckel delivered a $100 sponsorship check to the club.
There is a very special connection between Ivy Settlemyre, a nine-year member of the club and drill team captain, and the Decatur Fire Department. Members of the department saved her Australian Shepherd, named Brody, from a fire at the Settlemyre home on Parkview Drive in March of 2011.
“I had somewhat forgot about Brody until Ivy came to the fire station one day and asked if we would be interested in sponsoring the 4-H Dog Club project,” Marckel said.
