The Decatur Fire Department was dispatched at 9:59 a.m. on Saturday to the home of Luke Snyder, 1116 Cross Pointe, in response to a house fire.
The fire appears to have started in an attic area above the garage, which was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived, according to a spokesperson for the department.
Crews were able to stop the blaze from spreading to the rest of the home, but the garage area received approximately $50,000-$60,000 in damages, according to the spokesperson.
Witness reports stated that two off-duty air servicemen were first on the scene and called 911 to report the blaze. They then, along with a few neighbors, searched the home for people before firefighters arrived.
The fire department spokesperson was unable to verify that account.
No injuries were reported and firefighters returned to the station at 1:06 p.m.
