Fire ’em up, provide water for Haiti

July 31, 2013

The first-ever BerneOff  — an amateur grilling event being billed as "a little friendly competition and great bar-b-que" — will be held Saturday, August 17, along Harrison Street, near the Muensterberg Plaza in Berne.
Proceeds from the event will benefit the Dots in Blue Water program that has twice sent students and faculty from South Adams High School to Haiti to help native Haitians purify their drinking water supplies.
Cooks in the BerneOff event will be judged in three categories — chicken, ribs and pulled pork. The entry fee for the event is $35 per category. Registration forms are available at the Berne Chamber of Commerce website at
Those wishing to enter the event should send the registration form and a check payble to BerneOff  to Chris Kruchkow, 265 West Compromise St., Berne, IN 46711.
