Fewer funds for hungry families

November 8, 2013

November 1 marked the end of the 2009 federal stimulus package which provided additional income for participants of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program’s food stamp program. The expiration of stimulus funding has resulted in a reduction in benefits received by SNAP recipients of 7 percent, or $10 per month per person, according to northeast Indiana Family and Social Services Deputy Director of Communications Marnie Lemons.
“I know area food banks are gearing up for additional needs,” said Lemons. “There’s no real way to predict how this is going to affect people.”
