County officials nearly outnumbered members of the public at Wednesday night’s informational session in Geneva on the proposed county jail/superior court project. Only 20 citizens attended the meeting to voice their concerns about the chosen location of the facility before a panel of county commissioners, councilors, the county attorney and several contractual agents connected to the project.
The tone and tenor of the discussions remained cordial throughout the evening.
New to jail discussions was the disclosure of where — exactly — the planned facilities are expected be located along the 1st Street corridor. Aerial images showed a cluster of buildings, all on the west side of 1st Street and straddling Madison Street. Plans indicate a parking lot and superior court complex on the north side of Madison, with a 150-200 bed jail, work release and sheriff’s department situated south of Madison.
