....The crowd was sparse on Saturday morning at the former Monmouth Elementary School for an auction of desks, chairs, electronics and other supplies — including the kitchen sink — that are no longer needed by the North Adams school district. Only a handful of nostalgia seekers were there to take home mementoes of the school. Equipment is being removed from the one-time school to make room for the state education department's Region 8 Educational Service Center. Plans call for service center personnel to occupy the building over the upcoming Christmas break. North Adams Superintendent Wylie Sirk said total figures for the Monmouth sale were unavailable this morning. He said only a few items went unsold.
