Evelyn A. Purdy

    Evelyn A. Purdy, 80, Berne, passed away at 12:04 a.m. Monday, Nov. 4, 2013, at Swiss Village.
    She was born on Saturday, Feb. 18, 1933, in Adams County to the late Eugene and Leona (Kneuss) Snow. She married her high school sweetheart, the late Roscoe J. Purdy Sunday, June 17, 1751, in Geneva.
    Evelyn was a 1951 graduate of Geneva High School. She was a lifelong member of High Street United Methodist Church and gave freely of her time to various committees and organizations in the church. She loved IU basketball with unapologetic enthusiasm. She delighted in playful dogs, sunny weather, gospel music and rocking newborn babies. Evelyn thought going to church on Sunday what the most important thing she did all week. Her cheerfulness and ready smile will be missed by her family and friends.
    She is survived by a son, George Purdy, Morgantown; two daughters, Luann Ford, Portland and Kathy (Tim) Liechty, Berne; 4 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
    She was preceded in death by a brother, Donald F. Snow.
    Visitation will be from 2-7 p.m. Thursday at Downing and Glancy Funeral Home, 100 N. Washington St., Geneva and from 10-11 a.m. Friday at High Street United Methodist Church, 435 High St., Geneva.
    Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the church with Pastor Michele Isch officiating.
    Burial will follow at West Lawn Cemetery, Geneva.
    Preferred memorials are to Swill Village Endowment Fund, 1350 W. Main St., Berne.
    Arrangements are being handled by Downing and Glancy Funeral Home in Geneva.
