Evelyn Espich

    Evelyn (Christener) Espich, 92, of Decatur, passed away on Friday, April 12, 2013, at Woodcrest Nursing Center.
    She was born on Tuesday, July 27, 1920, in Monroe to the late Harvey and Nellie Marie (Worden) Bovine.
    Evelyn married John Christener, Jr., on October 13, 1936, in the Monroe Friends Parish; he passed away December 19, 1974.
    Evelyn was a member of the Monroe United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School, helped with the youth, and was involved in the United Methodist Women. She loved to sew and make quilts.
    She retired from CTS in Berne in March of 1983 after 20 years of service.
    Among survivors are two daughters, Carolyn Kae (Marvin) Taylor and Marilyn Mae Schaadt, both of Monroe; son, Robert Gene (Carolyn) Christener of Monroe; half-brother, Albert L. (Minnie) Andrews of Decatur; half-sister, Leah M. (Merlin) Zurcher of Berne; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
    Preceding Evelyn in death were a brother, William Bovine; a half-brother, Paul L. Andrews; a granddaughter, Dina Girod; and a great-grandson, Benjamin Roehs.
    Visitation will be from noon-3 p.m. today at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home.
    Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, also at the funeral home, with Pastor Susan Roehs officiating.
    Burial will follow in the M.R.E. Cemetery in Berne.
    Preferred memorials are to ACCF Benjamin Roehs Scholarship or ACCF Donor Advised Dina Starr Girod.
