Esther N. Augsburger, 95, of Berne, passed away at 11:35 p.m. on Monday, April 25, 2011, in Swiss Village Retirement Community of Berne.
She was born on September 16, 1915, in Geneva to Gee R. and Edith M. Edgar Greene.
Mrs. Augsburger was a teacher with Fort Wayne Community Schools and with Geneva schools. She retired in 1978 after 42 years of service.
She was a 1932 graduate of Geneva High School and a graduate of Ball State University in Muncie, from which she received her bachelor's degree. She was also a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority.
She entered Swiss Village Retirement Community in February of 1999 and attended Trinity United Methodist Church in Berne.
She married Dale L. Augsburger on October 25, 1946, in Syracuse, Indiana. Dale passed away on October 10, 2002.
Survivors include a son, Joel Augsburger (and wife Joyce) of Geneva; a daughter, Sue A. Schumm (and husband Allen) of New Haven; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale L. Augsburger; her parents, Gee R. and Edith M. (Edgar) Greene; a sister, Miriam Brown; a brother, Phillip Greene; and a half-sister, Genevieve Mottice.
Arrangements are being handled by Downing and Glancy Funeral Home, 100 N. Washington St., Geneva, where family and friends may gather to share and remember from 9-11 a.m. Friday, April 29, 2011, at Swiss Village Retirement Community in Berne.
A service to celebrate Esther's life will be held at Swiss Village Retirement Community in Berne at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 29, 2011, with Chaplin Anita Rediger officiating.
Interment will be at West Lawn Cemetery in Geneva.
