Ernest Roe, 83, of Decatur, died Wednesday. January 5, 2011, in Adams Memorial Hospital. He was born on August 23, 1927 in Adams County to Fred J, and Daisy Galloway Roe.
He married Betty Lee Fickert on September 28, 1957 in Ohio City, Ohio and she survives.
He retired in 1992 after 49 years at Central Soya Co.
He also served in the United States Army from 1950-54, during the Korean Conflict.
He belonged to St. John Lutheran Church at Ohio City, American Legion Post 43 in Decatur, the Adams County Coon Hunters’ Club, and the Pleasant Mills Lions Club.
Other survivors are one son, Randy E. Roe (and wife Kim) of Decatur; and three grandchildren: Logan, Parker, and Mallorie Roe, all of Decatur.
Deceased are three sisters: Wilma Hough, Lillian Kincaid, and Helen Davis. Four brothers are also deceased: Delmas, Clifford, Robert, and Raymond Roe.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday in St. John Lutheran Church, 202 Dillon St., Ohio City, with Rev. Denise Brown officiating.
Burial will be in Backesto Cemetery, rural Berne, with a military graveside services by the color guard from Legion Post 43.
Visiting hours will be on Sunday from noon-3 p.m. and 4-6 p.m. in Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur, and on Monday from 9-10:30 a.m. in the church.
Preferred memorials are to St. John Lutheran church in Ohio City or to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
