Ernest R. Liechty

    Ernest R. "Ernie" Liechty, 78, of Berne, passed away on January 28, 2013, at Swiss Village.
    He was born on December 14, 1934, to the late Amos and Della (Nussbaum) Liechty in Adams County.
    Ernie married Berdella M. Alt on April 5, 1958; she preceded him in death.
    He was a member of the First Mennonite Church and was active in a diversified livestock and grain farmer. He was supportive of his church, county 4-H organization, FFA, and the MCC Meat Canner. Ernie loved his family deeply and enjoyed spending time with them.
    Among survivors are two sons, Ted (Kathy) Liechty and Kent (Teri) Liechty, both of Berne; two daughters, Jane (Denver) Nussbaum and Sondra (Jeff) Lehman, both of Monroe; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchldren; and three sisters, Grace Herman of Keystone, Ind., Irena Sprunger and Leona Neuenschwander, both of Berne.
    Ernie was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Kimberly Nussbaum; three brothers, Grover, Irvin, and Amos, Jr. Liechty; and five sisters, Vera Gerber, Marcella Scholl, Esther Neuenschwander, Justine Liechty, and Ernestine Liechty.
    Visitation will be from 1-8 p.m. on Friday, February 1, at the Swiss Village Chapel, and from 9:30-10:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 2, at First Mennonite Church in Berne.
    Funeral services are Saturday, February 2, at 10:30 a.m., also at the church. Pastor Jerry A. Flueckiger will officiate.
    Burial will be at MRE Cemetery in Berne.
    Preferred memorials are to the MCC Meat Canner and/or Galesburg Rescue Mission & Women's Shelter of Galesburg, Ill.
