Eric Richard Mies, 41, from Chicago, Ill., formerly of Decatur, died Thursday, October 11, 2012, in a tragic accident in Cancun, Mexico.
He was the youngest son of Dick and Gwen Mies, born in Decatur, on September 28, 1971.
On June 19, 2010, he married Katie Elizabeth Czelatdko, of Cederburg, Wis., whom he had met in Chicago, shortly before his father died in 2008.
Eric graduated in 1990 from Adams Central where he participated in football and baseball. He later graduated from DePauw University in Greencastle, Ind., with a degree in Computer Science. He was a member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity.
During all of his teen years, he assisted his parents at Villa Lanes. During the summers of his college years, he worked with his brother, Michael, at Technical Restoration Services, Inc., in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
After college, he later had positions at Price-Waterhouse in Chicago; Paramount Farms in San Francisco; Foremost Farms in Baraboo, Wis.; Dairy Gold in Seattle; and Deloitte Consulting in Sydney, Australia. He also founded and managed ConstructOne, an Australian internet based company. Currently, he was a partner at Rolta/Tusc in Chicago.
Surviving are his wife, Katie; his mother, Gwen; sister, Jennifer Temple and husband Phil of Indianapolis; brother Michael and his wife Monica of Waxhaw, N.C.; and brother Greg and his wife Jane, who reside in Decatur; father- and mother-in-law, Larry and Barbara Czelatdko from Cedarburg, Wis.; and brother-in-law, Danny and wife Katie from Menomonee Falls, Wis.; nieces and nephews include: Tyler Kimmel of Los Angeles, Calif.; Ashley Kimmel of Indianapolis; Brittney Such, Jazmen Mies, and Zachory Mies, all of Decatur; Jesica Adams of Berne; Alexander Mies of Waxhaw, N.C.; and Peyton Czelatdko of Menomonee Falls, Wis.; great-nephews, Xavier Hindenlang and Max Adams; and a great-niece, Kaydence Such.
Eric will be sorely missed by all other extended family members and a host of countless friends from all over the world.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Vaughn and Margaret (Kitson) Hilyard, and Carl (Molly) & Martha (Dawson) Mies.
Eric’s Godparents were Pat Baker and Jennifer Temple. Eric was also the Godfather of Megan Rickord of Decatur, and he and Katie were Godparents of Mason Wachtendonk, currently of Boston, Mass.
Visitation will be from 2-5 p.m. on Friday, October 19, at St. Mary’s Parish Hall in Decatur.
