Emilda H. Gerber, 83, of Decatur, passed away on Thursday, November 22, 2012, in Adams Memorial Hospital.
She was born in Jay County on January 23, 1929, to the late Daniel and Florence (Freund) Schindler.
Emilda married Clyde L. Gerber on July 10, 1948; he died on April 29, 2006.
She was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church and worked as a homemaker.
Among survivors are six sons, John C. Gerber of Marysville, Wash.; Daniel N. Gerber of Decatur; Thomas A. Gerber of Fort Wayne; Joseph C. Gerber of Perrysburg, Ohio; Mark A. Gerber of Peru, Ind.; and Steven C. Gerber of Decatur; three daughters, Constance J. (John) Christophersen of Fort Wayne; Susan K. (M. Charles) Eckhart of Decatur; and Sharon A. Luarde of Rocky River, Ohio; five sisters, Pauline Miller of Decatur; Ladonna Homan of Fort Recovery, Ohio; Betty Greaf of Waynedale; Jeanette Grieshop of Fort Recovery; and Joann Wendel of Portland; 21 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and one great-great granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her son, Eric L. Gerber; a brother, Irvin Schindler; and two sisters, Margaret Kieser and Ruth Knapke.
Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m. on Monday, November 26, at Haggard-Sefton & Hirschy Funeral Home, with a reciting of the Holy Rosary at 2:30.
A mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, November 27, at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, with visitation one hour prior in the St. Mary’s Parish Hall. Father David Voors will be presiding.
Burial will take place in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
Preferred memorials are to St. Joseph Catholic School.
