Ellsworth advances to day two of state
FRANKLIN—Chase Ellsworth, Bellmont's sophomore linksman and lone representative at the state golf finals, has made the cut for the final round of the 36-hole event at The Legends Golf Club in Franklin, Indiana.
Ellsworth landed in the state match by qualifying at regional as one of the top three individual players that did not advance with their team. The top nine individual shooters advance to today's second round and Ellsworth has landed the eighth open spot by shooting a 75 (+3) on the day, which is tied for 17th overall amongst all 132 golfers in the field.
The sophomore is only Bellmont's second individual to qualify for the second day of the state tournament. Keith Blythe did it twice, once in 1990 where he finished 6th in the state and then his senior year in 1991 he earned state runner-up for the Braves.
Evansville Central's Dylan Meyer is the current leader individually and amongst players still playing with teams at 69 (-3). Fellow sophomore Michael Sharp from East Noble is just one stroke behind at 70.
The other seven individual qualifiers joining Ellsworth for today's second round include Martinsville's Logan Barker, Providence's Corey Cahalan and Rylan Porter of Plainsfield all tied at 73 (+1) with Clayton French of Linton-Stockton shooting a 74 (+2) just behind. Bryce Very of Providence and Travis Waninger of Heritage Hills also stayed in Franklin last night netting the last spots with a 75 (+3).
