Edith M. Green, 93, a longtime resident of Monroe who moved to El Paso, Texas, a year ago, died in her residence at 9:59 p.m. on Sunday, April 3.
She was born on January 30, 1918, in Decatur to Harry O. and Ruth B. Baltzell Williams.
She married Frank L. Green on February 9, 1946, in Fort Wayne. He passed away on May 8, 1998.
She was a homemaker who did volunteer work at Swiss Village Retirement Community in Berne for 33 years.
Edith belonged to First Baptist Church in Decatur and was an active member of the community by serving in various organizations. She graduated from Decatur High School in 1935.
Surviving are one daughter-in-law, Linda Green of El Paso; one son, Daniel L. Green of Decatur; one sister, H. Jean Lowden of Angola; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Steve Green, and two grandsons. Christopher Green and Joseph Allen Young Sr.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Monday in Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur, with burial in Ray Cemetery, rural Monroe.
Visiting hours were noon-4 p.m. Sunday, April 10, in Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home, with an Order of the Eastern Star service at 4 p.m.
Preferred memorials are to the missionary society at First Baptist Church, the Antoine Rivarre chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution in Adams County, and Shriner's Childrens Hospitals.
