Eagle Scout project will bring disc golf to Kekionga Park

November 18, 2013

It was a windy but otherwise pleasant Saturday afternoon on Nov. 9 — ideal for the beginning of work for a new sports venue in Decatur, but downright lousy for the actual sport itself.
Nonetheless, Decatur resident Josh Porter, with a few family members and friends and accompanied by staffers from the Decatur Parks and Recreation department, was hard at work on that breezy afternoon installing posts that will eventually be key components of a disc golf course in Kekionga Park, along Parkview Drive, on the city’s southeast side.
Porter’s efforts are part of his work toward becoming an Eagle Scout. The son of Ted and Emily Porter, Josh will soon join his brothers, Danny and Chris, in holding the highest honor bestowed by the Boy Scouts of America.
Josh Porter is a member of Scout Troop 70, with Don Hess as his scoutmaster.
