Dry night seen for parade

October 31, 2011

The rain which fell in Decatur this morning is expected to be long gone by tonight, with some rather nice weather predicted for the Callithumpian Parade in Decatur.
The official start time for the annual event is 6:57 p.m.
The National Weather Services says parade-goers can expect mostly clear skies with temperatures in the low 40s — heading to an eventual low of around 32 degrees — for the start of the parade, which is expected to draw thousands of people to the downtown area. Various sizes and shapes of chairs were situated as early as Sunday night as people picked out their spots to watch the event.
Police said Monroe St. Extended from the back road near Bellmont Middle School to US 224 will be closed starting at 6 p.m.
From 5-10 p.m., Madison St. will be closed from Second St. to the alley toward First St.; Court St. will be closed from Second St. to the alley; Jefferson St. will be closed from the alley between Second and Third Sts. to the alley between First and Second Sts.; the alleys leading to Second St. will be closed between Adams and Jackson Sts.; and Second St. will be closed from Monroe St. to Five Points.
Beginning at noon, no parking will be allowed on the First St. parking lot at Madison St., nor on Second St. between Adams and Monroe Sts.
From 6:45-10 p.m., Monroe St. will be closed from Bellmont High School to Second St.
