It's one-more-and-done for driver's education at Adams Central High School — the last high school in Adams County to offer driver training.
At the September meeting of the AC school board, longtime driving instructor, teacher, and coach Cary Blake told board members that state officials have stopped all high schools in Indiana from teaching drivers' ed, although AC got a "grandfather" exemption for the 2011-12 school year.
Adams Central will offer driver instruction this fall and also in the spring of 2012, at a fee of $310.
Two rules have been established for the AC driver ed program:
1. It is open only to Adams Central students.
2. If there are fewer than 100 entrants, then home-schooled students living in the AC district will be accepted to rise to 100. If there are more than 100 AC students signed up, then no one else will be allowed in.
Blake said veteran AC teacher and coach Sam Beer is the other driving teacher and middle school Principal Aaron McClure will be available to help with a few students.
