Doris J. Terveer

    Doris J. Terveer, 87, of Upland, California, formerly of Decatur, passed away on July 1, 2012, at her home surrounded by her family.
    She was born on October 28, 1924, in Chicago, Illinois, to the late William P. and Rose A. (Bialkowski) Derichs.
    She married John B. Terveer, M.D., on October 30, 1948; he died on October 7, 1997. 
    Doris was a member of Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church in Claremont, California, and of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Decatur, where she was in the Women of St. Mary’s. She was also a member of the St. Lucy’s Benedictine Guild and the Auxiliary of Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center in California.
    She worked as a registered nurse and homemaker and volunteered at Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center.
    When recently asked what she was most thankful for in her life Doris’s replied, "That my children all get along and will always be there for each other”.
    Doris is survived by three daughters, Mary Beth (Art) Hernandez of Camarillo, Cali.; Julie Terveer of Pomona, Cali.; and Cathy (Ben) Larson of Upland; one son, John W. Terveer of Carson City, Nev.; a brother-in-law, David F. Terveer, and a sister-in-law Carolyn S. (Terveer) Hakes, both of Decatur; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
    She was preceded in death by a daughter, Margaret Ann; and grandson John P. Summers.
    Prior to services in Decatur a visitation was held and a Mass was offered in California.
    Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 11, at Haggard-Sefton & Hirschy Funeral Home, with reciting of the Holy Rosary at 3:30 p.m.
    A 9:20 a.m. prayer service will be held on Thursday, July 12, also at the funeral home, followed by a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church.
    Rev. Fr. Cornelius Ryan, C.S.C. will be presiding and burial will take place in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
