Doreen H. Walters Frecker, 85, of Decatur, passed away on Sunday, August 21, 2011, at Ossian Health and Rehabilitation.
She was born on December 30, 1925, in Manchester, England, to George and Annie (Smith) Thomason.
She married John J. Walters; he died in 1990. She married Larry M. Fecker on July 16, 2004.
Doreen was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church at Hessen Cassel. She was a homemaker and worked for the United States government.
She also served in the British Royal Navy during World War II and was a member of the American Legion Post 43 in Decatur.
She is survived by her husband, Larry M. Fecker of Decatur; her daughter, Constance D. Hammond of Decatur; Larry’s seven children, Melvin L. (Nicki) Frecker of Marion; Terry (Pam) Frecker of Fort Wayne; Allen (Mary) Frecker of Hoagland; Brian (Jodi) Frecker of Zanesville; Phillip (Dawn) Frecker of Warren; Juanita (Joe) Bueter of Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming; and Marianne (Jerry) Hammon of Harlan; 24 grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her first husband and two sons, Alan T. and Bryan R. Walters.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday, August 24, 2011, at Haggard-Sefton and Hirschy Funeral Home in Decatur, with reciting of the Holy Rosary at 7:30 p.m.
An 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted on Thursday, August 25, 2011, at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Hessen Cassel. Father Thomas Lombardi will be officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Military honors will be performed by the color guard from American Legion Post 43.
Memorials are to The Salvation Army and to St. Joseph Catholic School at Hessen Cassel.
