Dorathea Hoffman, 82, of Decatur, died at 2:15 p.m. Tuesday in the nursing center at Woodcrest Retirement Community. She had been in the nursing center for three years.
She was born on April 10, 1928, in Fort Wayne to Herman and Bertha Scheumann Moellering.
She married Werner E. Hoffman on June 4, 1949, in Zion Lutheran Church (Friedheim); he passed away on May 31, 2004.
Dorathea was a homemaker and enjoyed sewing. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church at Preble, where she taught Sunday School for many years and was a member of the Ladies' Aid Society. She was also involved in the auxiliary of the Preble Fire Department.
Surviving are one son, Timothy W. Hoffman (and wife Cheryl C.) of Decatur, and one granddaughter, Courtney Hoffman of Decatur.
She was preceded in death by one son, Dennis Hoffman, in infancy; two brothers, Walter and Carl Moellering; and two sisters, Lorene Hoffman and Charlotte Conrad.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday in St. Paul Lutheran Church at Preble, with Pastor Daniel Brege officiating.
Burial will be in St. Paul Lutheran Church Cemetery.
Visiting hours are 9-10 a.m. Friday in Porter Auditorium (the chapel at Woodcrest); 2-4 and 5-8 p.m. Friday in Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur; and 2-3 p.m. Saturday in the church.
Preferred memorials are to St. Paul Lutheran Church at Preble or to Wyneken Memorial Lutheran School at Bingen.
