Dora R. Tarkington

    Dora R. "Becky" (Burgess) Tarkington, 81, of Berne, formerly of Geneva, passed away at 10:50 p.m. Tuesday, April 16, 2013, at Swiss Village in Berne.
    Becky was born Saturday, January 2, 1932, in Huntertown, Ind., to the late Harlow C. Hart and Pearl Eash-Hart-Shaver.
    She worked for the Berne Police Department as a dispatcher and had also worked as a bookkeeper for the Adams Co. Highway Dept.
    Among survivors are four sons, Charles A. (Janet) McAfee, Sr., of Henderson, Nev.; Paul E. Burgess, Jr., of Houston, Texas; Harlow "Skeet" (Dee) Hahn of Hartford City, Ind.; and  Michael E. (Cathy) Burgess of Monroeville, Ind.; three daughters, Paula (David) Booher of Geneva, Becky Lou (Jon) Hilliard of Berne, and Jo Ellen Mogensen of Decatur; sister, Dorothy "Harlene" Spice; 17 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
    Becky was preceded in death by her brother, Samuel Hart;  a son, Robert Burgess, and a daughter Sandra Dupree.
    Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Friday, April 19, and 10-11 a.m. Saturday, April 20, at Downing & Glancy Funeral Home in Geneva.
    A service to celebrate Becky's life will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, also at the funeral home, officiated by Pastor Larry Madex.
    Burial will follow in the Stahl Cemetery in Wells County.
    Preferred memorials are to the Family Life Care, Swiss Village Samaritan Fund, Riley Children's Hospital, or to the Stahl Cemetery.
