Rev. Donald Walter Biester, 77, Crown Point, Ind., passed away on Friday, January 4, 2013.
Donald graduated from Trinity Lutheran School in May 1949. He attended Crown Point High School for one year before transferring to Concordia Lutheran High School in Fort Wayne, where he graduated in 1953. He entered Concordia College in Fort Wayne and received his Associate of Arts in 1955. He entered Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, Mo., where he received his Bachelor of Arts in 1957.
Donald received his Masters in Theology in 1960 and was assigned to St. Martin Lutheran Church in Clintonville, Wis., as Associate Pastor. In 1962, he was called to be the Senior Pastor of St. Martin. In 1965, he received a call to be the pastor of Emanuel Lutheran Church in Tipton, Ind. At Emanuel, he dedicated a new church and fellowship hall.
In 1978, Pastor Biester received a call to Zion Lutheran Church in Decatur, where he dedicated a new gym and fellowship hall. He retired in 2002 and moved back to Crown Point, where he lived at Wittenberg Lutheran Village. Pastor Biebster served on the Board of Directors of the Indiana District of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod for many years.
Among survivors are his sister, Helen (Chuck) Sauerman of Crown Point; two nephews, David (Debbie) Sauerman of Ill., and Dick (Laura) Sauerman of Crown Point; niece, Nancy (Greg) Forsythe of Crown Point; and several great-nieces and -nephews.
Pastor Biester was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Biebster and Neva (Norbert) Heidbreder.
Funeral services were held January 9 in Crown Point.
