Donald Menter, 74, Decatur, passed away Friday, Nov. 29, 2013, at his residence surrounded by his four daughters.
He was born Wednesday, Oct. 14, 1936, in Adams County to the late Carl W. and Edna (Kirchner) Menter. He married Gertrude Taylor March 29, 1959, in Adams County; she passed away August 7, 2004.
Donald served his country in the United States Air Force in France during the Berlin Crisis. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Preble. He was also a member of American Legion Post 43, Moose Lodge 1311, Elks Lodge and the Eagles Lodge.
He was owner and operator of Preble Roofing and Spouting and was the owner of Roto Rooter for 24 years. Donald was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved NASCAR and basketball; coaching at Wyneken for many years. He also enjoyed watching his daughters play sports.
Surviving are four daughters, Shelly (Chris) Meyer of Preble, Donna (Chris) Scheumann of Bluffton, Jenny Piper of Decatur, Karla (David) Hatcher of Fishers; a sister, Margie (Jim) Merriman of Preble; 12 grandchildren, Luke (Raegan), Lacy, Sarah, Corey, Hannah, Whitney, Ashley, Benjamen, Garrett, Makayla, Rhett and Kendal; and two great-grandchildren, Brooklyn and Logan.
Preceding Donald in death was a grandson, Cody Allen Crabbs.
Funeral services will be at 11a.m. Wednesday in the St. Paul Lutheran Church, Preble with Pastor Daniel Brege officiating. Interment will follow in the St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 2-5 and 6-8 p.m., Tuesday in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur and one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.
Preferred memorials are to Family LifeCare Hospice in Berne.
