Donald L. Bollenbacher, 85, of Decatur, passed into the arms of his Lord while in the love and care of his family at his home on Tuesday night, October 23, 2012.
He was born at home in Jefferson Township on August 28, 1927, to the late Edward and Nora (Morningstar) Bollenbacher.
He was married to Evelyn Louise Ketrow, who passed away on June 14, 1987. He then married Janice (Foster) Bowen on July 16, 1988.
Don served his country in the United States Army during World War II. Besides farming, Don worked at Central Soya in Decatur for over 45 years until his retirement in the early 1990s.
He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Schumm, Ohio. He belonged to the Decatur Veterans of Foreign War, Decatur and Willshire American Legions, and the Decatur Moose Lodge.
Among survivors are his wife Janice; son, Dick (Val) Bollenbacher of Ohio City, Ohio; daughters, Eldana (Don) Edgell of Pleasant Mills, and Suzette Bocanegra of Marshall, Mich.; stepdaughter, Sue (Todd) Semer of Ohio City; and ste-son Terry Bowen of New Lexington, Ohio; five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, 10 step-grandchildren, 21 step-great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and two stepgreat-great-grandchildren; also nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Delmas “Mike,” Chalmer, Cecil, and Kenneth “Duke” Bollenbacher; and a sister, Alice Pauline Miller.
Friends may call at Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home on Friday from 2-5 and 6-8 p.m., where family will be present to greet friends and share memories. There will be a Moose Memorial Service at 8 p.m. following visitation at the funeral home.
Funeral services celebrating his life will be held on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Jeff Patterson officiating.
Burial will follow at Willshire Cemetery.
The family suggests memorial contributions to Zion Lutheran Church, Schumm; Family LifeCare; or Riley Children’s Hospital.
