Dolores M. Harshman

    Dolores M. Harshman, 89, of Kendallville, Indiana, formerly of Decatur, passed away at 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 22, 2011, at Lutheran Life Villages in Kendallville.
    She was born on October 1, 1922, in Decatur to Frank J. and Mary Geimer Bentz, one of her 11 children.    
    She married Dale R. Harshman on August 22, 1942, and he passed away in 1996.
    After starting out in a tiny apartment, they purchased a 40-acre farm east of Decatur.
    They also had a son, Dale R. Harshman Jr., who went to be with the Lord early in life.
    After Dale Jr.'s passing, they adopted and reared two daughters and a son, all of whom survive: Cheryl Black of Kendallville; Roger D. Harshman (and wife Marsha) of Avilla, Indiana; and Mrs. Jim (Brenda) Parrish of Decatur.
    She is also survived by a sister, Marcille Bentz Coyne of Decatur; 10 grandchildren: Christopher J. Heimann, Mrs. John (Melinda S.) Squier, Mrs. Dave (Caryn) Thompson, J.R. Case Parrish, Lara Case Parrish, Amanda Parrish, Amie Parrish, Shannon M. Hippenhammer, Shane M. Harshman, and Mrs. (Brandon) Melissa L. DePoy; and 16 great-grandchildren.
    Aside from her husband and son, she was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters: Agnes Bentz Buffenbarger, Irene Bentz, Herman Bentz, Al Bentz, Esther Bentz Egly, Lee Bentz, Ed Bentz, Estella Bentz Teeter, and Frances Bentz.
    Dolores was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Decatur and the Women of St. Marys.
    After celebrating her 50th wedding anniversary, she retired from General Electric in Decatur to spend time with her grandchildren.
    Visitation is from 4-8 p.m. today, October 24, 2011, with reciting of the Holy Rosary at 3:30 p.m. in Haggard-Sefton and Hirschy Funeral Home, Decatur.
    A 9:20 a.m. prayer service will be held on Tuesday, October 25, 2011, in Haggard-Sefton and Hirschy Funeral Home, followed by a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, with Father Gabriel Msuya officiating.
    Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Decatur.
    Memorials may be made to Lutheran Life Villages in Kendallville or to Visiting Nurse Home Health and Hospice in Fort Wayne.
