Denton E. Bemus

    Denton E. Bemus, 76, Decatur, died Monday, April 21, 2014, at Lutheran Hospital. He was a former resident of Sydney, Ohio and Louisville, Ky.
    Denton was born Dec. 7, 1937, in Sidney to the late Herman H. and Margaret F. (Huccker) Bemus.
    He married Amy L. Holly June 9, 1956; she preceded him in death Oct. 15, 2011.
    Denton was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Msgr. J.J. Seimetz Council 864 and its 4th Degree Assembly. He worked as a sprinkler fitter and was a member of the Sprinkler Fitters Union 669.
    Surviving are his children, Douglas A. (LaDonna) Bemus and Mark G. (Sandra) Bemus, both of Louisville, Margaret I. (Russell) McNutt of Tuscon, Ariz., Holly A. (James) Kwan of Houston, Texas and Eric M. (Cindy) Bemus of New Haven; three sisters, Cheryl (Steve) Corthell of Sydney, Chris (Charlie) Farlee of Woodland, Mich. and Cathy (Bill) Burnett of Cheboygan, Mich.; 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
    He is preceded in death by a grandson, George Andrew Bemus; and a brother, Hank Bemus. 
    A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church with Father David Voors officiating.
    Burial will take place in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
    Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Friday at Haggard-Sefton and Hirschy Funeral Home, with a reciting of the Holy Rosary at 3:30 p.m. K of C 4th Degree Honor Guard will post from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. Visitation will also be one hour prior to services at the church parish hall.
    Preferred memorials may be made to St. Mary’s Building on our Heritage or the Gibault Home for Boys.
