Delores M. Gerber, 87, of Decatur, died on Monday, May 23, 2011, at Adams Memorial Hospital.
Delores was born on July 15, 1923, in Adams County to Harry and Emily (Bracht) Worden.
Delores was united in marriage to Robert M. Moser of Bluffton in the fall of 1941. On December 13, 1944, Second Lieutenant Moser was killed during an aircraft training mission in southeastern Missouri.
On August 23, 1947, she married Richard C. Gerber Sr. He preceded her in death on June 16, 2010.
Delores graduated in 1941 from Kirkland High School and worked at General Electric in Decatur for two years after graduation.
Delores was a lifetime member of Salem United Church of Christ in Magley, where she was involved in the church choir, the Women’s Guild. and the Ladies Aid. She was also a member of Moose Lodge 1311 and American Legion Auxiliary at Post 43, both in Decatur.
In 1946, Delores and her sister, Mary Jane Murchland, opened the Del-Mar Beauty Shop in Magley. The shop was destroyed by fire on November 30, 1947.
Delores loved gardening and spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by two sons, Max (Barbara) Moser of Indianapolis and Richard Gerber Jr. of Decatur; two daughters, Gloria (Bill) Miller of Bluffton and Linda (Richard) Harman of Decatur; two sisters, Virginia Smitley and Mary Jane (Eugene) Murchland of Decatur; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three brothers and three grandchildren.
Visitation will be on Thursday, May 26, 2011, from 3-8 p.m. at Haggard-Sefton and Hirschy Funeral Home, Decatur.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Friday, May 27, 2011, at Salem United Church of Christ, Magley. Rev. Linn Bartling will officiate.
Burial will be in Magley Cemetery.
Memorials are to the Alzheimer's Fund within the Adams County Community Foundation or to Salem United Church of Christ, Magley.
