Defeated library petition drive numbers given

    Residents of the Monroe Township portion of the town of Monroe will not become members of the Adams Public Library System (APLS) since the bid to make that happen has been defeated in dueling petition drives.
    Township Trustee Gerald Walker said in an e-mail to the Daily Democrat that there were 106 signatures for the change and 152 on a petition to prevent the change.
    Walker said that he and Monroe Township advisory board members Roy Lehman, Brice Amstutz, and Arlene Kuntzman will meet at the Monroe fire station at 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 18, to review the certified results of the petitions. The meeting will be open to the public.
