BLUFFTON — A huge eight-run rally in the top of the sixth keyed the Decatur 12-and-under All-Stars to a 13-6 win over South Adams and the pool title in the Bluffton Baseball Bash Saturday.
The Mobile Ones fell to the eventual champions from Chillicothe, O. in the Sunday playoffs and took home third place medals in the tourney.
To start the uprising, Alex McDonald and Tyler Bauer singled, then Manny Bewer put the Ones ahead with a two-run double to left. After a Brett Funk single, Will Mitchem then hammered a line drive which one-hopped the fence for a two-run single.
Lucas Strickler knocked a run in for a 10-6 lead and later McDonald drove in two runs with his second hit of the inning. He had three hits while Brewer had two doubles among three hits. Bauer doubled and singled while Nate Kaczmarek had three hits and Mitchem had two hits.
Funk hurled the final three innings, striking out four and allowing one run for the win.
Bauer turned a double-play to end the game and earlier Brewer started a double play for the Ones.
Daxtyn Ulman was the winning pitcher earlier in the tourney when the Mobile One Decatur team took out host Bluffton 10-7. Decatur lost to the Indiana Rebels 9-6 in the second pool game before rallying for the key win against South Adams.
Trevor Ortiz was the starter in the win on Saturday, striking out four with three runs allowed. Bauer allowed one hit in two-thirds of an inning of relief, then Funk came on to get the victory.
Bauer, playing shortstop, caught a smash with one out in the bottom of the sixth, stepped on second and fired to first for the twin killer. Brewer had a similar play earlier in the game.
Decatur finished 2-2 in the tourney.
