Decatur squads advance in Mays H.E.B.A. Tourney

All four Decatur teams advanced in the quarter-final round of the Hoosier East Baseball Alliance Mays Tournament, held at three sites Thursday night.

In Decatur, Decatur Dental Service scored five runs in the second inning, but still had to come from behind to nip Box and Pallet of Monroeville 9-7, and Hull Lift Truck exploded for a 16-1 in over the Fleming Rays (Monmouth). At Monroeville, league champ Kintz Insurance downed the Monmouth Cubs, while at Monmouth, Bixler Insurance, the second seed, bounced Heyerly's Ice Angels 12-2.
Kintz is slated to meet DDS in the semi-finals, set for Tuesday, June 28, at 6 p.m. at Monroeville. Hull Lift Truck will clash with Bixler Insurance in the 6 p.m. game at Monmouth Tuesday.
The Tuesday winners will meet for the H.E.B.A. Mays championship at Rube Wynn Field on Thursday, June 30, tentatively at 6 p.m., though the game time might be changed.
After a four-run fourth inning, Box and Pallet led DDS 7-6. Dental rallied for two runs in the fourth and added one in the fifth for the 9-7 win.
Brevin Slusher slugged a pair of doubles among three hits and was the winning pitcher for DDS, striking out 9 while walking 5 and yielding 1 hit and 4 runs in three and two-thirds innings of relief work.
David Noetzel knocked an inside-the-park home run in the second frame for DDS while Aaron Lehrman had two hits with an RBI and Kory Feasel slammed two hits, knocking in a run.
Tanner Walker tripled with 2 RBI while Nathan Ulman tripled and scored two runs. Cole Razo knocked in a run with a hit for DDS.
Lehrman tossed out a BP runner trying to steal second in the opening inning. Cole Razo laid down a bunt, "squeezing" in Ulman, who scored from third on the play in the third inning.
Feasel was the starting pitcher, allowing 3 runs on 4 hits with 3 strikeouts and 5 walks in two and none-third innings of pitching to start the game for DDS.
No Box and Pallet statistics were released.
Bixler Jumps On Monmouth Angels
Bixler Insurance rolled out five runs in the first inning and three more in the second en route to the 12-2 win over the Heyerly Angels.
John Ruble tripled in the first-inning rally and doubled in the second. Caden Staub doubled in the first inning and Cameron Voglewede tripled in the second for Bixler.
Staub, Cory Miller, Voglewede and Nick Moser all had two hits for Decatur. Lucas Juengel tripled with two hits for the Angels.
Cory Miller struck out 4 and walked 1, allowing 1 run on 1 hit in three innings for the win. Staub fanned 3, walked none, and allowed a run on three hits in two frames of relief for Bixler.
Andrew Morris took the loss for the Angels, allowing 8 hits with 4 strikeouts and a walk. Nick Teeple fanned 3 and walked 2, allowing 3 hits and 4 runs in relief.
