Decatur’s fire classification upgraded

March 6, 2014

Decatur Fire Chief Les Marckel is urging local business and industry leaders to check with their insurance carriers and underwriters to learn if they use the ISO survey which, according to the chief, could lead to lower insurance rates for the firms.
Marckel said at Tuesday night’s city council meeting that he and Bill Carpenter of the city’s water department recently took part in ISO’s Public Protection Classification survey, which ISO uses to determine a city’s fire suppression services. Decatur came away from the widely-used survey with some lower — and improved — classification numbers than in the past.
