Decatur grocery closing its doors

March 17, 2014

Sack & Save supermarkets  in Decatur, formerly Community Markets, will close its doors for good in the near future, according to a press release issued by the supermarket’s parent company, Fresh Encounter.
A spokesperson for the Findlay, Ohio-based company said an inventory reduction sale will run while supplies last. Everything in store will be reduced 30-50 percent until inventory is exhausted.  Some exclusions apply, company officials said.
“We tried two different formats in Decatur, and neither seemed to appeal to the community,” said Mark Gephart, Fresh Encounter senior vice president of human resources. “It is always a very difficult decision to close a store, and we avoid doing so as long as possible. The Decatur location simply did not perform to the level that was needed to keep it open.”
