Dawgs dump Squaws 3-2

Bellmont led 2-1 in intermission, but two second-half goals by New Haven proved to be the difference as the Bulldogs ousted the Squaws from the 2010 state soccer tourney with a 3-2 win in the opening game of the BHS Girls Soccer Sectional Monday.

Senior Brittany Thatcher and sophomore Andrea Fruchte tallied first-half goals for Bellmont, which closed out a successful 10-5-1 season. New Haven, paced by goalie Karisa Jacquay, blanked Bellmont in the second half.
Hayley Smith slammed in two goals for the Bulldogs while Jessica Cox scored one. Jacquay had eight saves for the winners, which takes an 8-7-1 record into the semi-finals versus Fort Wayne South Side on Thursday at 5 p.m.
Maci Bosch had five saves as the Bellmont goalie.
In the second game, all three goals were scored in the second half in a 2-1 South win over Blackhawk Christian.
Connor Windmiller and Ariana Simmons both scored goals for South, now 10-5-1. Meara Capps tallied the Blackhawk goal.
The Braves closed out at 3-11-2 on the season.
Blackhawk goalie Hannah Henry was busy with 14 saves. South Side goalie Morgan Clarke recorded just three saves as the Archers' defense kept the Braves at bay.
