David W. Smith

    Our wonderful husband, Dad, Grandpa, son, brother and uncle, David W. Smith, age 58, of Geneva, went to be with his Lord and Savior at 3:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 29, 2011, at his residence.
    He was born on Thursday, July 31, 1952, in Decatur.
    Dave worked for Elkhart Products Corp. in Geneva for 40 years as a tool and die maker.
    He was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church in Geneva, at which he had served as superintendent, trustee, youth leader, and Bible School staff member.
    He also was a Cub Scout leader, a Geneva baseball coach, a member of the Geneva Jaycees, and a South Adams youth football coach. He served on the West Lawn Cemetery Board.
    Dave was a 1971 graduate of South Adams High School.
    He married Tonya Stanley on June 28, 1975, in Cross United Methodist Church at Berne.
    Survivors include his wife, Tonya (Stanley) Smith of Geneva; his parents, Harold and Jean Smith of Geneva; three sons, Travis (wife, Jamie) Smith of Geneva, Landon (wife, Rachel) Smith of Berne, and Ryan Smith of Geneva; two brothers, Doug (wife, Barb) Smith and Deon Smith of Geneva; one sister, Jody Smith of Geneva; and five granddaughters: Madison Smith, Alison Smith, Emmerson Smith, Hailey Smith, and Adalyn Smith.  
        He was preceded in death by his brother, Rick Smith.
    Arrangements were handled by Downing and Glancy Funeral Home, 100 N. Washington St., Geneva, where family and friends may gather to share and remember from 3-8 p.m. on Tuesday, February 1, 2011, and from 10-11 a.m. on Wednesday, February 2, 2011.
    A service to celebrate his life will be held at Downing and Glancy Funeral Home at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, February 2, 2011, with Rev. Keith Schreffler and Rev. Michael Heath officiating.
    Interment will follow at West Lawn Cemetery in Geneva.
