David N. Schirack, 59, Decatur, died Sunday, Oct. 20, 2013, in Saginaw, Mich. He was born Nov. 21, 1953 to the late Cornelius L. "Shorty" and Mary E. (Wolpert) Schirack.
Dave was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Church, the Holy Name Society and a former member of the Knights of Columbus. Dave was self-employed, starting the Dave Schirack Construction Co. He was known as the "hometown carpenter." He was active in many things including being an IHSAA wrestling official, a member of the Indiana State Wrestling Association and Decatur Wrestling Club. His favorite place and things in the world that he enjoyed were his cabin and boat in the Michigan Upper Peninsula and enjoying his dogs and the outdoors, which led to his saying "Life is good."
Survivors include a son, Shaun (Nicki) Schirack, Decatur; a daughter, Angie (Matt) Gunsett, Decatur; a brother, John (Ruth) Schirack, Decatur; two sisters, Anita (Terry) Myers, Quincy, Ill., and Karen Shutes, Decatur; and four grandchildren, Harrison and Owen Gunsett and Ellie and Preston Schirack, all of Decatur.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Friday at Haggard-Sefton and Hirschy Funeral Home, with reciting of the Holy Rosary at 3:30 p.m., and on Saturday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Parish Hall.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church with Father Patrick Joseph will be presiding.
Preferred memorials are to his grandchildren's education fund or Decatur Wrestling club.
