David “Dave” Charles Reed, 72, Coldwater, Mich., lost his fight with cancer Sunday, Dec. 8, 2013, at home.
He was born Oct. 8, 1941, in Decatur, the son of the late Ralph and Rose Mary (Omlor) Reed.
Dave graduated in 1960 from Decatur Catholic High School. Following graduation he joined the U.S. Army, where he proudly served. He worked for 10 years at B.F. Goodrich before becoming an assistant manager for Bob’s Party Store, where he retired in 1999 after 14 years of service. He enjoyed watching cartoons, college football – especially his favorite team Notre Dame – and NASCAR; he was a big Jeff Gordon fan. Dave liked traveling and spending time working in the yard. He spent hours keeping his rose bushes in top shape.
Dave is survived by two brothers, Ray (Claudia) Reed of Decatur and Phil Reed of Gaithersburg, Md.; two nephews, Steven Reed or Lingrove and William Reed of Fort Wayne; two great-nephews, Trevor M. Reed of New Haven and Jacob J. Reed of Fort Wayne; his long-time companion, Rita Hantz of Coldwater; her children, Fred and Chuck Hantz of Ohio and Kevin Hantz of Florida; and a loving cat, Snowball.
A funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. Friday at Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater, with Father Richard Fritz of St. Mary of Assumption Church officiating. Interment will follow the service in Fort Custer National Cemetery.
Visitation will be at 9 a.m. Friday, also at the funeral home.
