Darrell L. Gerig, 82, of Berne, passed away Tuesday January 24, 2012, at Swiss Village.
He was born to Ralph A. and Sylvia Marie (Niswander) Gerig on September 9, 1929.
He married Marilyn (Amstutz) on September 16, 1950; she survives.
Darrell was a band and choir director at Monmouth School, six years, and Adams Central School, six years. Darrell was also a middle school guidance counselor at Adams Central for 24 years. He was Minister of Music at Zoller Tabernacle in Detroit for three years, Decatur Missionary Church for 15 years, First Missionary Church in Berne for 15 years, and West Missionary Church in Berne, where he was a member, for 15 years.
Darrell was also a member of the Edelweiss Singers, a founding board member of the South Adams Senior Center, and the South Adams Arts Council.
Survivors also include two sons, Darrell (Lynn) Gerig, Fort Wayne, and Duane (Janet) Gerig, Knoxville, Tenn.; a daughter, Dawn (Douglas) Kelsey, of Lafayette, Indiana.; and two sisters, Kathleen Henkel, of Berne, and Joyce (Edward) Widmark, of Lima, Ohio; 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Thursday, 6-8 p.m., and Friday, 2-8 p.m., in the Swiss Village Chapel and one hour prior to funeral services at the church.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 28, at 10:30 a.m. at the West Missionary Church, Berne, with Pastor Keith Rupp officiating.
Preferred memorials are to the West Missionary Church Music Department and/or the South Adams Senior Center.
