D. Joseph Wilder, 75, of rural Decatur, passed away at his residence on Tuesday, September 11, 2012.
Joe was born in Adams County on April 3, 1937, to the late Arthur B. and Helen I. (Tricker) Wilder.
On August 9, 1958, he married Ruth A. Lengerich; she survives in rural Decatur.
Joe was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church and its Holy Name Society. He worked for Central Soya (Bunge) for 46 years, retiring in 2002; he also retired from farming.
Among survivors are five sons, Mike (Susan) Wilder, Tony (Lori) Wilder, John Wilder and Matt (Mary) Wilder, all of Decatur; and Roger Wilder of Grand Rapids, Mich.; four daughters, Suzy Wilder, Deb Wilder, and Jodi (Todd) McBride, all of Decatur; and Kris Wilder of Fort Wayne; five brothers, Art Wilder of Woodburn, Jim (Jean) Wilder, Glenn Wilder, Dave (Deb) Wilder and Paul (Janet) Wilder, all of Decatur; four sisters, Rose Homan of Coldwater, Ohio, Louise Hoffman of Fort Wayne, Jeanine Rue of Monroeville and Lynette (Larry) McChessney of Fort Wayne; 14 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Emily C. Wilder; a brother, Ed Wilder; and a sister, Charlene White.
Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. on Thursday, September 13, at Haggard-Sefton & Hirschy Funeral, with reciting of the Holy Rosary at 2:30 p.m.
Visitation will also be on Friday, September 14, from noon-1 p.m., at St. Mary’s Church Parish Hall, followed by a 1 p.m. mass of Christian burial at St Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church. Father Philip DeVolder officiating.
Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
Preferred memorials are to Adams County Community Foundation Emily C. Wilder Scholarship Fund or Family Life Care-Hospice.
