D’Arcy events to begin Wednesday

    Three days of events in Fort Wayne and South Bend will conclude at noon Friday with a funeral Mass at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 1122 S. Clinton St., in Fort Wayne for Rev. John M. D’Arcy, retired bishop of the Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend, who died Sunday at the age of 80.
    Diocesan officials said the three day will begin in South Bend on Wednesday D’Arcy’s body is transported to St. Matthew’s Cathedral, 1701 Miami St.
    Public visitation in South Bend will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday, with a Rosary at 5 p.m.
    The diocese’s current bishop, the Rev. Kevin C. Rhoades, will conduct a Mass of Transferral before the body is transported back to Fort Wayne.
    On Thursday, the retired bishop's body will be formally received at the cathedral in Fort Wayne. Morning prayer and visitation will begin at 10 a.m., with a Rosary at 5 p.m. and an evening prayer at 7.
    Visitation will continue from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Friday.
    D’Arcy’s interment will be conducted privately, with only family members in attendance, diocesan officials said.
    He will be interred in Fort Wayne, in the crypt under the cathedral, where the first four diocesan bishops – Bishops John Henry Luers, Joseph Dwenger, Joseph Rademacher and Henry Joseph Alerding – lie.
