Yields are up, but commodity prices are down, as farmers in Adams County put the finishing touches on the 2013 harvest season.
After a 2012 growing season adversely affected by lingering dry weather, corn crop yields in the county are showing a marked improvement over last year, said Dawn Hummel, program technician for the Adams County office of the Farm Service Agency.
“A lot of producers finished (harvesting their crop) last week, and others are hoping to finish up this week if the rain holds off. By the end of the week we’ll be pretty much done,” Hummel said Monday afternoonn.
