Covered bridge has bid date
The Adams County Commissioners plan to open bids at their June 27 meeting for the full-scale restoration of the covered bridge near Ceylon.
At Monday's session of the commissioners, Dave Milligan of Portland, who is overseeing the grant process to finance the project, reported that the plans and designs for renovating the wooden bridge built in the 1870s are 90 percent complete.
He also stated that June 30 is the deadline for all information about the project to be turned in to Indiana's Office of Community and Rural Affairs, after which he expects that agency to release the grant money to the county between July 5 and July 19.
Work on the bridge would start soon after the money is received, Milligan said, and he anticipates seven months of work, with a completion deadline in June, 2012.
The state grant is for about $450,000.
PATTERSON RETURNS TO COUNTY
The man who was number two in Adams County's government's information technology (IT) department is now number one.
At Monday's meeting of the county commissioners, a unanimous vote hired Landon Patterson to replace his resigned former boss, Pat Norton. Patterson will start in his new duties on June 24.
County Attorney Mark Burry said Patterson worked under Norton for five years, but left eight months ago for another IT job.
However, when Norton departed several weeks ago for a private-sector IT position, county officials sought a replacement and finally offered the post to Patterson, who accepted.
He is an Adams Central High School graduate and a college graduate and is familiar with the county, its technological equipment, and its personnel.
