Courtesy Motors has earned the right to be in tonight's Sandy Koufax League championship game thanks to a lopsided 12-2 victory over a feisty Monroe Harvestland squad last night.
Despite the game's uneven score ending in five innings, the scoreboard read 2-2 after three complete innings of play as there seemed to be a pitcher's duel emerging between Courtesy's Mason Shinaberry and Harvestland's Lance Busse. Courtesy would pounce on Busse in the fourth, however, taking advantage of a few walks and miscues to put up a seven on the board to take a commanding 9-2 lead. They would tack on three more in the fifth to lead by 10 and Monroe would not retaliate to prolong the game thanks to a shutout inning of relief from Austin Knous.
Shinaberry finished with four innings of work allowing only two runs on two hits with eight K's and one free pass, while Busse was credited with eight runs on six hits with two strikeouts and five walks in the loss. Luke Voirol pitched 1.1 innings allowing four runs on three hits with two K's and two walks, while Alex Burkhart pitched a third of an inning allowing one run.
Of the nine hits in the game for Courtesy, five of them went for extra bases including a triple by Justin Jauregui in the fourth and one by Shinaberry in the fifth. Roman Silva doubled in the fourth, while Adam Weaver doubled in the fourth and the fifth inning.
