Adams County residents will soon be able to pay their taxes by credit card over the counter, Treasurer Tom Krueckberg reported to the county commissioners at Tuesday's weekly meeting.
The new service will begin on January 1.
Krueckberg stated, "We've had a lot of people asking about" paying taxes with credit cards, "especially with the increased use of debit cards in the last couple of years." He added that "we've had people who wanted to pay with a credit card, but had to go to an ATM and withdraw cash" instead because the county didn't accept them.
Credit cards have been accepted via telephone, and on the vendor's website, but not over the counter, Krueckeberg explained.
The City of Decatur only recently began accepting credit and debit cards, both on the phone and over the counter
