County swim prelims set for Thursday

Two Bellmont freestylers are seeded fourth for Thursday's Jay County Girls Swim Sectional Prelims, frosh Rachel Klingensmith in the 100 free and Mikayla Voglewede in the 500 freestyle.

Chloe Mock, Megan Maynard, Kelsey Link and Erin Hunter are all seeded in the top 12 for Belmont in both of their events. Sarra EVans, Peighton Morlan, Hannah Mendez, and Bailee Hankenson are seeded in the top 12 in one of their events, notes BHS coach Drew Norby.
The prelims are scheduled for Thursday with the finals on Saturday. No alternate slate has been given in case the bad weather forces postponement.
South Adams' Erika Waugh is seeded first in the 500 free (5:51.6) and is tops in the 100 backstroke (1:03.18).
Ali McClain of Adams Central is the fourth seed in the 50 free at 26.13 and the sixth seed in the 100 butterfly.
Voglewede, also a freshman, is seeded No. 5 in the 200 free at 2:15.Klingensmith is No. 9 in the 50, behind Maynard (eighth).
Klingensmith is the fourth seed in the 100 for BHS. Hunter is No. 6 and Morlan No. 7 in the backstroke.
Hankenson is the 10th seed in the breaststroke. Whittney Landis of AC is No. 6 in that event.
"This season has been one of the best for the girls' team in a number of years," stated Norby.
"Last year we went 3-9 in our dual meets and this year we turned that around to 8-4. Last year we finished seventh at sectional and this year the goal is fourth."
BHS diver Nicola Jones has a real shot at the top six in the sectional, notes Norby.
"Our seniors, Kelsey Link, Haley Handshoe, and Nicola have done an excellent job of mentoring our younger swimmers," praised Norby.
