Coaching staffs for fall sports were solidified by school boards at Adams Central, Bellmont, and South Adams this week with South Adams having the most changes.
The SA school board approved 40 fall coaches ranging from volunteer to head coaches and noted 17 of the 40 positions will be filled by new individuals.
Most noticeably will be the addition of three former Bellmont High School football coaches to head coach Jason Arnold's staff. Former BHS co-head coaches Greg Meyer and Rick Burkhalter (Burkhalter was the sole head coach last season) were both tabbed as varsity assistants at South Adams and Michael Stimpson was slotted in as a freshman coach.
South Adams will also have new soccer coaches for both the boys and girls teams this year with Steve Dellinger on board to mentor the boys and Pete Rupp as the girls coach. Varsity coaches returning for the Starfires include Arnold in football, Clint Anderson for boys and girls cross country, Cindy Greer in boys tennis, Seth Sprunger in girls golf, and Ashley Buckingham in volleyball.
The Adams Central school board approved its list of coaches recently and will see only a handful of new faces on the sidelines and court this fall. Penny Gay will be a new assistant volleyball coach to head coach Jeremi Schortgen while Jill Roughia will be the head coach of the middle school cross country program.
Adams Central's head coaching staff remains intact with Terry Fawcett for boys and girls cross country, Schortgen for volleyball, Mike Hower for tennis, and Michael Mosser in football.
The North Adams school board, meeting on Tuesday evening, approved Matt Hunter, Chad Taylor and Daniel Boocher as assistant varsity football coaches.
The resignation of Andy Heim as boys varsity track coach was also accepted, and volunteers of Steve McBride for the boys basketball program and Annita Boocher for the girls cross-country program were approved.
Larry Getts had already been approved by the NA board as the new head football coach after a somewhat spirited search to replace Burkhalter who had resigned. Other Bellmont head coaches include Craig Krull for volleyball, Joe Selking for boys tennis, Carl Risch for girls cross country, Randy Hisner for boys cross country, Steve Lee for girls soccer, Heim for girls golf, and Bill Meyer for boys soccer.
