County’s vendor checks going electronic

    Mailing checks to pay for work done in Adams County will soon come to an end, according to auditor Bill Borne.
    Borne told Adams County Commissioners this week that the county will soon begin paying vendors electronically to save money on man hours, materials and postage.
    Vendors will soon be asked to provide the county with their bank information for to allow for electronic payments. Once a claim has been sent to the county and processed, the funds will then be transferred to the vendor's account.
    "If it's people coming in for one time, like we have a tax, that will get a check," said Borne. "But with reoccurring vendors it will be done through electronic deposit and they'll receive an email confirming the money was deposited in their account."
    In a related topic, at the last county council meeting, Adams County Councilman Dennis Bluhm stated that when he receives the council packet from Borne by email, he uses quite a bit of paper to print the packet. Bluhm suggested the council receive computers to use for council meetings.
    Chairman Randy Colclasure said the council would discuss that at budget time.
