County opens culvert bids; Primco request put on hold

September 10, 2013

The opening of bids for replacement of three large culverts on Piqua Road was the main order of business at the weekly meeting of the Adams County Commissioners Monday afternoon. Highway department supervisor Mark Mitchel stated that all three culverts "are located within a half mile of each other," so it made sense to create one bidding process that covered all three projects.
County engineers had estimated the cost of replacement of the culverts at $272,983.00. Nine construction companies had submitted bids on the project. County attorney Mark Burry opened the bids, checking to insure that all parameters of the process had been met by the bidders.
The low bid of $258,072.51 was submitted by VTF Excavation of Celina, Ohio, with Fleming Excavating of Decatur also coming in below estimate with a bid of $260,359.20.
