County officials get glimpse of proposed court structure

September 18, 2013

Members of the Adams County Commissioners and the Adams County Council were updated Tuesday morning on various design aspects of the proposed new courthouse by Cory Miller, principal of the Fort Wayne architectural firm of Schenkel-Schultz.
Miller utilized a SketchUp graphics program and a digital projector to allow commissioners and council members to visually "see" what four different architectural style renditions of the proposed structure would look like at both the Third Street and Madison Street sites under consideration for the project. The four various design schemes presented by Miller included one utilizing an historic architectural style, two employing a contemporary style and a fourth which combined both.
All four plans pictured a three-story structure with the bottom floor partially underground. The footprint of the proposed Third Street structure could be moved either north or south to accommodate parking, depending on the possible acquisition of the privately-owned Collier building, or the demolition of the Superior Court building which previous housed the Adams County Carnegie public library.
