County to help struggling homeowners

August 26, 2013

County Treasurer Tom Krueckeberg recently  updated the county commissioners on a few finance changes from the state.
Krueckeberg reported that the county can establish a payment plan for those in tax sale to keep them out of such a sale. People qualify for tax sale when they fall a year and a half or more behind on their taxes, so the county will sell their property to pay the debt and then those people have about a year to try to make up the debt to the county or move from that property.
Krueckeberg reported that this year's tax sale list will be finalized in November; he said there are currently about 70 properties that will be listed.
